NortonAntivirus

Antivirus software.

Description

Just a normal antivirus program. It offers some sort of protection versus viruses and malware. But the problem is that it does not protect your computer against all viruses and malware.... some things may slip past and then your computer is infected even though you've got antivirus software running. So antivirus software gives you a false sense of security! Please install it anyway and keep it up to date!

Installation

UNSW has a site licence for Symantec Antivirus 10.1. So you can just download it from the Physics IT website: Symantec Antivirus 10.1

Save the file to your hard drive and then click "Run", which will start the Installation Wizard. Once you've finished installing, please run the Symantec Live Update to get the latest virus definitions from the Symantec homepage. You can only run the Live Update when you've got administrator rights. So leave your user account and switch to the administrator account and do the Live Update.

Configuration

There is not a lot to configure to use Symantec Antivirus. You just install the program, then you start it and click "Full Scan".... The rest is done by the program!

Symantec_screen

If you've got NPGS and Design Cad installed on your system, Symantec Antivirus will pick up on that because one of the NPGS files has the same name or structure as some virus. So it will try to quarantine the file or to delete it. Just click "Leave it alone" or "Quarantine", the program will still function normally.
